If you have been reading the blog, newsletter, or have seen posts from my Facebook page, you might have heard about my Eighth Birthday Giveaway where I gave away some awesome prizes. This was the first year that a session was included in the giveaway and I’m so excited about how it all played out that I can’t wait to share!
Kim Brochu was the winner of the mini session prize and she had some really wonderful ideas for her session. Kim is a certified personal trainer based in Cochrane and she has a great instagram feed about fitness, health, and wellness.
Kim’s session included her son Alex and his very special friend Scarlett. Scarlett is a recent addition to their family but you can already… and easily see… that they are the perfect pair. This is what Kim mentioned after she viewed their online gallery and that’s how I felt as I watched them together and as I edited their photos. Their bond is something very, very special.
Scarlett is an autism assistance dog guide from the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides. The Lions Foundation of Canada trains dogs to help Canadians and they have seven different programs to do just that: Canine Vision, Hearing, Autism Assistance, Service, Seizure Response, Diabetic Alert, and Support.
These dogs are taught a set of basic commands that are an inclusive skill set to help all handlers, but some dogs also receive training that is tailored to their future handler’s needs. It is an amazing program that creates lasting bonds between the dog, those who raise and train them, and their future families/handler.
